The average salary of employees at regional and district courts across Czechia is set to rise by 5,000 Czech korunas from January 2025. This agreement was reached between the trade unions and Justice Minister Pavel Blažek, according to union representatives.
The salary increase will mean an average of 42,370 korunas per budgeted position, aiming to enhance compensation in line with the demands of the judicial workforce. Nonetheless, the trade unions remain on strike alert, continuing to push for more extensive systemic changes. Union members have called for the establishment of separate pay scales that reflect the specific demands placed on court employees, distinguishing them from other state administration roles.
Marie Šafrová from the Justice Trade Union explained that out of the increase, 2,100 korunas is allocated for non-guaranteed, motivational components of salaries, while the rest is directed towards the standard pay component. As exact salary figures will be confirmed with pay slips in the new year, union members are prepared to maintain their strike alert status until they see the promised changes reflected in paychecks.

Echoing these sentiments, Anna Pospíšilová, the union chairwoman, emphasized the importance of verifying the actual amounts received by employees. Despite the agreement, employees remain cautious, given past dissatisfaction over their substandard wage conditions, which previously led to strikes in May and October.
The Justice Ministry, which includes regional prosecution offices and other state divisions, has faced ongoing salary-related unrest. The ministry has announced that budget provisions cater for salary increases across the justice department and the Prison Service, totaling a projected increment of 2.84 billion korunas for the upcoming year. However, the specifics of the distribution remain undisclosed.
As discussions between the unions and the ministry continue, both parties seek to resolve ongoing grievances regarding fair and appropriate compensation for court employees, amidst a backdrop of broader public sector dissatisfaction.
