The Czech Ministry of Justice has terminated the employment of a staff member following charges of assault and battery against two women in the centre of Prague. This development was announced by Justice Minister Pavel Blažek on social media platform X. The accused, who had initially provided a clean criminal record upon hiring, now faces potential legal consequences, including up to three years in prison.

The incident, which took place in Vodičkova Street last November, was brought to public attention after the police released a video of the attack earlier this week. Local television, Nova, also reported that the employee had been involved in similar past incidents. According to the footage, the man struck one of the women in the face with a bottle, causing her to collapse. Her friend, who attempted to intervene, was also attacked and knocked down. Both victims required medical treatment as a result of the attack.

Minister Blažek highlighted that, at the time of his employment, the man had no criminal record on file. This aligns with procedural requirements where employees must provide proof of a clean record to secure a position. However, the ministry is unable to further investigate past conduct unless it directly relates to job performance due to privacy regulations.

The ministry's spokesperson, Vladimír Řepka, confirmed the accused had worked in the property management division since June 2023. The ministry is now examining its recruitment procedures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
